Renewing the driving licence from Vélez-Málaga, Mijas or Alhaurín — in Málaga city
If you live in Vélez-Málaga, Mijas, San Pedro Alcántara, or Alhaurín de la Torre, you can renew your driving licence without going to the DGT. We explain how.
Many drivers from the Costa del Sol and Axarquía believe that renewing their driving licence requires travelling to the Traffic offices or a centre in Málaga city and losing half a day. Nothing could be further from the truth: the complete medical examination takes less than 20 minutes, and you receive the provisional licence at the same moment.
Which municipalities come to the centre?
Centro Médico Conductores Avenida serves drivers from all over the province of Málaga. The municipalities with the most requests are:
- Vélez-Málaga and Axarquía — Torre del Mar, Nerja, Torrox and the entire region
- Mijas Costa and Fuengirola — the N-340 connects directly to Málaga in 25 minutes
- San Pedro Alcántara and Marbella — access is quick and straightforward via the A-7
- Alhaurín de la Torre and the Guadalhorce Valley — Alhaurín el Grande, Coín and Cártama
- Rincón de la Victoria and Macharaviaya — just 15 minutes from the centre of Málaga
- Antequera and surrounding areas — for those who prefer Málaga city over local centres
Why come to Málaga city instead of a local centre?
The main reason is the complete processing in a single visit for renewals. In many small municipalities, although there are recognition centres, the process with the DGT can take more days or require a second visit. At Centro Médico Conductores Avenida:
- The examination is conducted on the spot
- Processing with the DGT is direct and immediate (for renewals)
- You receive the provisional driving licence before leaving the centre
- You do not need to go to any Traffic office for the renewal
For many drivers in the province, a single trip to Málaga saves them weeks of waiting.
How long does it take?
The complete medical examination lasts less than 20 minutes. It includes:
- Visual examination with DGT-approved equipment
- Hearing assessment
- Computerised psychotechnical test
- General medical examination by a qualified physician
- Issuance of the official provisional licence
If you come with a prior appointment, there will be no waiting. You can organise the visit in less than an hour, including travel from nearby municipalities.
Required documentation
For any renewal, exchange or obtaining of a driving licence:
- Valid DNI or NIE
- Current licence if it is a renewal or exchange (valid or expired)
- Glasses or contact lenses if you usually wear them for driving
